Searching For Answers

google-smartphone-app-searchIn the realm of online searching and search engine optimization, a big shift has occurred in the past few years. That being a move away from the importance of keywords, to key phrases and intelligent question answering.

Think you know what people are searching for? Try your hand at a few rounds of Google Feud and put your skills to the test. The game has you guess the top ten Google autocomplete options for a specific question. You might just walk away feeling out of touch (I did).

Marketers need to have good content upfront that helps draw in the right customers. In addition to polishing up websites, studies have found that good SEO rankings are congruent with blogging. Additionally, companies need to be experts and leaders in their own right. That causes other sites to link back and helps garner media coverage, which helps in searches as well. Companies should also work to share their own content on social media because it adds visibility through another medium.

A good tip to remember, as one blogger put it, is to ‘think like your customers.’ That’s good advice any day.

  1. First of all, I just want to say that your post is very well written. I didn’t feel like I was reading a post from a classmate. Instead, I felt like I was reading a published blog from some polished social media mogul, so great job for that! Also, I wanted to say that you make some excellent points about how marketers need to have good content to draw in the right kind of customers. I am learning more and more how everything in the emerging media market is connected. You can’t just be good at one thing, you have to be well-rounded in everything. You can’t just have a good blog, you need to have a good website, be active on Twitter, and Instagram as well. Additionally, as you pointed out, you must have good content to help drive customers in your direction. Very insightful post!
